Deviated Septum
The nasal septum is a wall-like structure that separates the left and right nostrils. A deviated septum occurs when this structure is not straight, which can obstruct airflow. It’s estimated that about 80 percent of people have some degree of septal deviation. Common symptoms include difficulty breathing through the nose, particularly on one side. In cases where the deviation is significant, surgery to correct the septum can provide significant relief. Nasal septum surgeries are typically recommended for individuals who are either in the later stages of their pubertal growth spurt or have finished growing.
